ILAYATHALAPATHY VIJAY SET TO MATCH THE SENIOR SUPERSTAR WITH KATHTHI

     We had reported yesterday about Kaththi's humongous opening down South in India. The story is the same in the overseas markets as well. We have some numbers from the USA, where Kaththi set a pre-release record for the highest ever opening screen count for a Tamil film.

 

After the first 2 days (the premiere on 21st and the Diwali day 22nd) Kaththi has grossed 231,000 USD (more than 1.4 crores INR) from reported locations. Till date, Rajini and Kamal are seen as the rulers among Tamil stars in the US market and none of the other stars' movies have grossed more than 400K USD there. But given Kaththi's opening pace and the favorable reviews from many corners, Vijay is touted to join the senior superstars as yet another US box-office emperor. Kaththi is anticipated to cross the half-million USD gross mark as well
